Shahana Khatun’s journey from a small village in Birbhum district, West Bengal, marked by poverty and the prospect of child marriage, to becoming an M.Ed graduate and a dedicated teacher in a B.Ed college is a powerful testament to the impact of education and community support.
Shahana Khatun was born in Sahanagar village, post Bagdla of Birbhum district, West Bengal. Her family struggled with extreme poverty, relying on a small plot of land for their livelihood through farming. Due to their financial hardships, they considered child marriage as the only option to alleviate the family’s financial burden. The distance from their village to the city was 26 km, making access to educational opportunities challenging for Shahana. MBBCDS recognized Shahana’s potential and desire to study. The organization conducted a merit test to assess her academic abilities and commitment to education. Impressed by her performance, the organization decided to sponsor Shahana’s education and support her aspirations.
She began her educational journey with the organization’s support. She worked diligently and completed her Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.Ed). Determined to further her education and make a difference in the field of sports education, Shahana pursued a Master’s degree in Education (M.Ed), specializing in sports. Shahana’s success story serves as an inspiration to her community, particularly young girls facing similar challenges. Her journey highlights the transformative power of education, breaking the cycle of poverty and early marriages.
